1000 Splended Suns Higher Level Question
Destruction was a recurring motif throughout the story which was "marked by death and loss and unimaginable grief". Even through so many hardships Laila, Mariam, and the family still managed to make it. There was a certain element that fueled their drive. Discuss what was the seed of hope that was planted to make for triumph in 1000 Splendid Suns.

Both Mariam and Laila relied on hope to get through their hardships. For example to Mariam her hope came from her childhood, and the impact that Mullah Faizullah had on her. through him she saw a reason hope and perseverance of the things she could one day accomplished. Also her mothers sayings, as a child she was not able to grasp the meaning of her sayings. but as a grown woman she was able to understand them and apply them to her every day life such as "like a compass needle that points north, a man's accusing finger always finds a woman." Through Laila, love seem to be the seed that gave her hope. After the accident her need to find her parents (before she was aware they were dead) and her love toward Tariq is what gave her energy to overcome her injuries. Even after the years had came and left, once she found out Tariq was still alive, she strive to get away from Rasheed. To her Tariq was hope. In the book "A thousand splendid suns" by Khaled Husseini, had a theme that when everything is gone, all you have is hope. To the protagonist, If it wasnt for dreams of hope. They wouldn't have strive to persevere through their harships.
